Hey Friend, I really should be packing for a conference in Long Beach but this has been on my mind all week so couldn’t NOT share it.

I went to a workshop last weekend at Choice Center and learned a TON as always, but this one keeps replaying in my head so I had to share it with you.

I hear it and see it all of the time, people start a fitness program, have great results right out of the gate, but hit an obstacle within the first month or two, and quit.

I’m sure you’ve seen this too, and you may have been victim of this yourself.

So what’s the deal?

There’s a gym and Personal Trainer on every corner and enough healthy recipes on Pinterest to last a lifetime, yet you hit the same walls over and over.

What the fudge, why is it so hard to stay committed!

While it’s certainly multi-faceted, and I’ve written about many pieces to the puzzle on my blog, today I want to highlight one word that you’ve probably heard 1,000,000 times. I want to look at this word a little deeper, probably in a way that you haven’t heard before, because this will change the game for you.

Ready? Here it is:

Persistence.

Stay with me.

What does persistence mean to you?

Probably something along the lines of “keep trying,” right?

From a quick search online I found- “Firm or obstinate continuance in a course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition.” Sure, that’s what I thought too.

There’s more to it though.

Chris Lee discussed persistence at a workshop Alyssa and I attended last weekend and I thought it was profound and share-worthy so let’s dissect it.

Persistence- Here’s the deeper cut…… The CONTINUED CHOOSING OF A GOAL.

Read that again if the light bulb didn’t go off. No seriously, stop multi-tasking and read these 5 words again.

The CONTINUED CHOOSING OF A GOAL.

That’s absolutely profound in my book. A game-changer.

The CONTINUED CHOOSING OF A GOAL.

Think about it, how many times have you set a fitness goal and gave up? Be honest. I hear it every single day, no exceptions. I bet if I turned my phone off, didn’t check email or leave the house for a day, I’d still hear it somehow :).

You’ve done it. I’ve done it. We’ve all done it.

“I’m going to lose 15 pounds by March,” and two weeks later you get side tracked with a work project and then you are telling yourself that the goal is unreasonable, it’s not going to happen, it’s not your time, you are too busy, it’s too expensive, it’s too hard, your kids need you, your boss won’t understand, you can’t afford it and on and on.

Sound familiar?

Of course it does!

The CONTINUED CHOOSING OF A GOAL.

All you have to do is choose the goal again instead of throwing in the towel. WOOOOOOOOOW that’s profound!

Let it go. Who cares if you messed up yesterday! Let it go. Let go of all the non-sense between your ears and simply choose your goal again (the same goal) and move forward as if you have a blank canvas to work from (because you do).

Isn’t that freaking cool?? You can apply this thinking to anything!

The CONTINUED CHOOSING OF A GOAL.

The failure doesn’t matter when you choose your goal again. You aren’t dumb, you don’t suck at this, it’s not too hard and guess what? You CAN do it! Just choose your goal again and go forward.

BOOOM!

What would be possible for YOU if you continued to choose your goal, day after day until you achieved it?

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this 🙂

Enjoy your day,

Shawn
